Would there happen to be some javascript involved in said situation?

@tkprocat: there are javascripts running but not involving the form and/or the submit. There were 2 errors on empty js-links but I removed them. The problem is still there.

I noticed that it also occures on other mobile devices beside iPhone

The solution was as simple as it was stupid: I needed to turn on the cookies in safari on my iPhone.

It had to be browser-specific cause in chrome it worked perfectly.
