You might want to try installing a profiler (e.g. https://github.com/barryvdh/laravel-debugbar) to profile your app and see if that reveals what might be taking up the time (i.e. database queries).

I got trouble with Xampp and decided to make an alternative, introduced here:
Laragon creates a sandbox environment so you don't need to uninstall Xampp. You can use both Apache and PHP Server. Hope it helps.
Sorry everybody for wasting your time.
You can't run laravel 4.1(php 5.3.7) on xampp 1.7.3(php 5.3.1). Easy like that.
