moltin is based on an api. it depends on what are you looking for in a shopping cart and how extreme you wanna go. a few months ago i came across these two and decided to write my own. None of these gave me what i wanted.
Also try Laravel - Lavender. It's a good shopping cart cms built by a magento guru.
