Solution
After thinking about it some more, it occurs to me that I may be misunderstanding this, and am expected to write all tests under app myself. Which makes sense.

OK, getting a handle on things here. Went through multiple testing tutorials, got some test cases written up, and seeing my code coverage go up. Yay! :)
