You can show your mail config?
And check security setting in your gmail account
Not all (read, hardly any) web hostings allow outgoing connections to SMTP port, it's an anti-spam measure. You'll have to either contact support to make an exception for you, or move to a VPS or some other less restrictive hosting. Or don't use your gmail account for sending email.
don't know why... don't know how.... BUT
changing
MAIL_DRIVER=smtp
to
MAIL_DRIVER=mail
fixed the issue in my case!
