ok i managed to solved it changing

    public function expertise()
    {
        return $this->belongsTo('TeacherExpertise');
    }

to

    public function expertise()
    {
        return $this->belongsTo('TeacherExpertise', 'id');
    }

Can someone explain why the definitiom of the id column was needed? Isn't that covered by the eloquent conventions?
