A way to do it with a simple field is:

if (Auth::attempt(array(
    'email' => Input::get('email'),
    'password' => Input::get('password'),
    'enabled' => '1', // custom field not a dynamic variable from POST or whatever but a fixed value
))) {
     // success
}

But if you need to care about relationships, then you'll have to do it the more inelegant way as far as I know, I'm afraid.
