$this->layout->nest('content', 'mydir.form'))->with('xx','xx);
should be this
$this->layout->nest('content', 'mydir.form')->with('xx','xx');
or just do this ( your work around)
$this->layout->content = View::make('mydir.form', array(...));
to make layout dynamically : Dynamic Layout in Laravel 4
