what type of command? What does the command do? ... If you are not doing a very special thing, artisan should work fast, as fast as web interface side, but much better because there won't be a time out...

Try running a simple php -v to check whether its php that actually slow things down.

Wha? It's slow with PHP -v also!? This is new to me, not sure what's going on here, any suggestions?
