muppbarn,
The greatest thing about Laravel is its community. So I'd say start hanging out around the many sources of information provided by them.
Php has a Command Line Inteface called Artisan which aids in development in many ways. Laravel also ships with a Read-Eval-Print Loop called Tinker, you access it with Artisan. Eloquent is an Active Record ORM and Illuminate is the namespace name that rules them all.
Theres a lot of documentation out there. Some great sources are https://laravel.com/docs/5.2 https://laracasts.com/ http://daylerees.com/ http://laravel.io/ https://laravel-news.com/ http://culttt.com/ among many others...
The podcasts on laravel.io and laravel news are pretty good.
And dont forget to hang around slack - Larachat.
I redefined this question further in my second thread, so I'm just gonna mark this as solved.
