hey i'm facing the same problem, any luck?

EDIT: so i've just deleted all files in the /home/ubuntu/.composer/cache/files and /home/ubuntu/.composer/cache/repo and all works just fine, i guess some files were corrupted, best of luck.

change owner and group settings for your .composer dir.

sudo chown USERNAME:USERGROUP -R /home/USERNAME/
