I'm not 100%, but I don't think so. The route/filter would be hit first, before the controller. So you wouldn't be able to get it.

I might be wrong though. If you are setting up Roles and Permissions, then there are some helpful packages that will help you here.

There are a few out there, this one is probably the most widely used: https://cartalyst.com/manual/sentry
