I was having the same issue and it turned out my model had a boot method so the one on the trait was not being called.
@Ben-Speakman you may try this one instead: https://github.com/jarektkaczyk/revisionable
There's no conflict with any of the Eloquent methods, boot including, and it has some other nice features.
