Laravel 4.2. * Necessarily requires php version 5.4 and higher? or support 5.3.7?

Laravel requires php 5.4, as stated here: http://laravel.com/docs/4.2/installation#server-requirements

So I suggest you'd install PHP 5.4 or higher :-)
