is php setup as cli? what do you get if you do php -v?

I have Homestead itself running from VirtualBox on Windows. Just wondering, by Homestead design am I supposed to SSH onto the virtual machine and run these php artistan commands?

I guess setting up environments on the local machine would defeat the object of the Homestead's purpose?
