There should be a ".env.example" file in the project, you need to rename that file to ".env". Then you can run the key:generate command again and all should be good.

If you have no ".env.example" file maybe you can use the default one and rename that one to ".env": https://github.com/laravel/laravel/blob/8.x/.env.example
